Sqn Ldr Baldev Singh (Retd) RIP

It is with great shock and sorrow that we heard of the passing away of Sqn Ldr Baldev Singh (Retd) to-day – 11 Oct 11.

A thorough professional, having for long been the CTP and an executive Director at HAL, he had just a few months ago been made a full time Director at HAL.

Baldy, to the whole Marut fraternity – those who long knew him and those who just met him – will be fondly remembered  for his professionalism, sincerity and gentle manners. He played  the gracious host to us during the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the Marut in June in Bangalore. Some of us were in constant touch with him during the planning and organising phase. Were it not for his positive and unstinted support to our numerous demands on him, and his own contribution by way of ideas, the function and all the events concerned with it would not have been the grand success that they indeed were.

To all his friends and acquaintances Baldy’s passing away has been a cruel and tragic shock.

We pray God grants his family the strength to deal with this tragedy. Our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to them all. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

“I feel terrible Dara. He was such a nice soft spoken guy. We lived in the HAL colony for many years and were quite intimate. Just cannot understand what made him take this extreme step.

I know Air Force bestows names on people …Baldy had nothing to do with being bald . Spoke to him on his son’s wedding just the other day and as usual he was bubbling …havent known Baldy otherwise ..infact always smiling always positive and just couldnot understand how this fighter with an absolute dieahard and resolute persona could take this drastic step. May the almighty grant him peace and his family the courage to overcome this grief !

  10. Ravi Burli says:

I knew Baldy personally from only recently, after I was posted to Blore. Prior knowledge was hearsay – that spoke of a veritable colossus of a test pilot totally belying his somewhat dimunitive physical stature, who led from the front and flew all HAL built aircraft. Truly awe inspiring. His demise comes as an absolute and complete shock and I am instantly reminded of his gentle yet resolute persona sitting opposite me at so may meetings that we attended together recently. Every bit the consumate professional. I now feel glad I met him just the other day and had the opportunity of wishing him. May god rest him in everlasting peace and confer strength to his family to endure this irreparable loss.
